Texas Star Webpage Stage 1 "A Bowl of Red" (from Frank X. Tolberts book "A Bowl of Red", a history of chili) Rifle - 9 rounds Pistol - 10 rounds Shotgun - 2+ rounds Stage Set: Rifle- 3 rectangles, Pistol- 3 circles, Shotgun- 2 diamond knockdowns. 1 gun rack, hay bale or table (with blanket), Story: You've been collecting strays down across the Rio Grande and while heading back to Lonesome Dove, Texas you stop to rest in the border town of Terlingua. The local folks are having a celebration in honor of their hometown meal-in-a-pot� chili (note: there are no beans in Texas chili). The judges "they were unshaven, red-eyed and trying hard not to be sullen. It may have been imagination, but my nostrils picked up goat smell". That's just not right. Start: Both pistols are loaded with 5 rounds, holstered with hammer down on the empty chamber; the rifle is loaded with 10 rounds, action closed on the empty chamber, placed in box. The shotgun with action open also placed in box. To start timer: To start exclaim, "Let me try a bowl of red". At the beep, with the 1st pistol engage the 3 pistol targets P1-P3 with a 2-1-2 sweep from left to right. Holster and pull your 2nd pistol and shoot a 1-3-1 sweep from the right side. Holster the 2nd pistol, pick up your rifle and engage the 3 rifle targets R1-R3 with a double tap sweep, then a single tap sweep from either left or right side. Place rifle back in rack. Pick up shotgun and knock down the 2 shotgun targets SG1-SG2, from either direction. Shotgun targets must go down.

The shotgun with action open, also placed in box. To start timer: Starting at position 1 exclaim, "I Hate Posses". At the beep, pick up the rifle and engage the 4 rifle targets R1-R4 from the left in this order; R1- triple tap, R2-double tap, R3-double tap and R4-triple tap. Place rifle back in rack. Pick up shotgun and knock down the 4 shotgun targets SG1-SG4, either direction, must go down. Place shotgun back in rack. Move to position 2 and engage the 4 pistol targets P1-P4 with the same sweep as the rifle.

At the beep, pick up the rifle and engage the 4 rifle targets R1-R4 with a continuous Nevada sweep. Place rifle back in rack. Engage the 4 pistol targets P1-P4 with the same sweep as the rifle. Pick up shotgun and knock down the 3 shotgun targets SG1-SG3, either direction, must go down.
Wolves! Rifle - 10 rounds Pistol - 10 rounds Shotgun - 4+ rounds Stage Set: Rifle - 4 rectangles + rolling target Pistol - Texas Star plus 5 knock downs Shotgun - 4 knockdown or pipe SG targets It's calving season and you take your ATV out to check the cows and calves and discover that pack of wolves out of Yellowstone Park is up to their usual trick of killing calves cause they're easy marks. So you send a hail of lead into the pack to put an end to this situation. You start sitting on your ATV with your hands on the steering. To start the buzzer say your line "Outa here you vermin!". At the buzzer step off your ATV and from position 1 using your handguns clean off the Texas Star and the five knock downs in any order. Five second bonus for cleaning all ten targets. Move to position 2. With the shotgun shoot the two shotgun targets left, right, left, right. With the rifle shoot the 4 rifle targets in a left to right IRS sweep. OFF THE CLOCK, reload two and shoot the knock down to release the rolling target. Shoot the rolling target to drop the weight into the box. Bonus points awarded equal to the value of the box the weight is dropped into.
Texas Star Webpage Gophers! NOTE! The gopher stage will not be timed. Every shooter will be given a time of 30 seconds. So your score will not depend upon shooting fast but rather shooting accurately. Note that if you knock down all the gophers with six shots left and hit the bonus target six times you will end up with a score of zero if you have not hit any vegetables. NOTE #2! Notice the reduced penalties for hits on the vegetables. Under no circumstances do you want to shoot your prize winning punkin. It�s a sure winner at the county fair and first prize is $15.00. Fifteen second penalty for any HIT on the pumpkin. (only one penalty per stage) Avoid your wife�s tomatoes,. Five second penalty for any tomatoes knocked off the plant. Finally, there is the large gourd you�ve been saving to build a birdhouse. Ten point penalty for hitting the gourd. Pistols loaded 5 rounds each, hammers on empty chamber, holstered. Rifle loaded with 10 rounds hammer on the empty chamber staged on gun rest.. Shotgun open and empty, staged on the rest with six shells to be loaded from your person. Start holding the hoe in both hands. Say your line �Eat lead you varmints!� At the buzzer place the hoe in the gun rack and using the firearms in any order you wish you commence to shooting gophers. There will be a 5 second penalty for each gopher left standing when you are done shooting. Once you begin shooting a firearm you must continue shooting it until all it�s rounds are fired. A gopher knocked down in any way is a kill. Hits on gophers that do not knock them down are not kills. If, after all the gophers are dead you have any rounds left shoot at the long range gong. A five second bonus for each hit. All shooting must be done standing from within the rectangle marked on the ground. Irregardless of what class you are competing in you may shoot the handgun using two hands.
