Stage 1
"Rio Bravo"

10 Pistol
10 Rifle
4+Shotgun

We all remember the scene in Rio Bravo where, John Wayne (AKA Sheriff John T. Chance) was caught on the street by the bad guys. Angie Dickerson and Ricky Nelson were in the Hotel run by a small Mexican man named Pedro Gonzalez-Gonzalez (really Jose Curevo). In the movie, Angie Dickerson throws a pot of flowers through the window as Ricky Nelson goes out the door to help the Duke. In reviewing the actual history it went down like this. The young gunfighter did not think that throwing something through the window would work and the Gambling Lady was too afraid to do it. The duty fell to our hero JOSE CUERVO! He tossed a burrito through the window and than took out the gang and saved the Sheriff.

Start standing in the window with both hands on the burrito. Shotgun and rifle staged by the window. Pistol's holstered loaded with 5 rounds each. When ready say " Eat this you Hombres!" Toss the burrito through the window and pick up your shotgun and shoot the 4 shotgun targets in any order (targets must go down). Restage your shotgun and with your rifle shoot the rifle targets in a continuous Nevada Sweep starting on the right. Restage your rifle and move through the door and to position 2 and double tap sweep the targets left to right. Holster and move to the unloading table.

A prize will be given for the half fast male and lady shooter

Stage 2
"The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance"

10 Pistol
10 Rifle
4+ Shotgun

Again we pick on the Duke for getting his history mixed up. And , again we all remember the scene where Liberty Valance (Lee Marvin) and the young local Attorney (Jimmy Stewart, later to become Senator Ranse Stoddard ) got into a gun fight. Valance wounds Stoddard and laughingly prepares to finish him off. Stoddard slowly reaches for his gun and shots ring out and Liberty Valance falls dead. Jimmy Stewart claims to have killed Valance, John Wayne (local rancher Tom Doniphon) states that he really shot Liberty form the alley. But we really know that the one who shot Liberty Valance was our hero JOSE CUERVO! The town folk did not take kindly to his deed and set out to get him. Jose had to fend them off.

Rifle and Shotgun are staged in the gun rack. Pistols are holstered with hammer down on an empty chamber. Stand at the start position with a tortilla in hand. When you are ready say: "It ain't news. This is the West. When the legend becomes a fact, print the legend"

At the buzzer toss your tortilla and grab your rifle and with the first 5 shots Nevada sweep the center three targets and then single tap sweep all the targets. Restage you rifle and with your shotgun knock down the shotgun targets (targets must go down). Restage your shotgun and move to position 2 and shoot the center targets 2, 1, 2 with your first pistol and 1, 3, 1 with your second pistol. Holster your pistols and move to the unloading table.

Prize for the top gun on this stage

Stage 3
"The Cowboys"

10 Pistol
10 Rifle
4+ Shotgun

Once again we find an interesting story in the Duke's film "The Cowboys". In the film John Wayne is the rancher Mr. Will Anderson of the Double O, who has his ranch hands skip out to prospect for gold "up on the Ruby River". Mr. Anderson is forced to seek help else where. He finds a group of boys from the local school and hires them to get his herd to Belle Fourche . He also hires a new cook for the job - a black man by the name of Mr. Nightlinger -played by Roscoe Lee Browne. A group of newly released jail birds, headed by Asa Williams (Bruce Dern) offers to help, but the Duke won't have them as they lied about their experience. Mr. Anderson is killed by the outlaws when they rustle the herd and the boys vow to avenge his death. The outlaws find Mr. Nightlinger and plan to hang him when the trap is sprung and the boys open fire on the rustlers.

Again the movies have altered the actual history. The cook was not a black man, but our hero. None other than : (Yes you've guessed it! ) Jose Cuervo!

The long guns are staged in the gun rack, pistols are holstered with the hammer down on an empty chamber.

Start with your hands behind your back. When ready give the following lines for Mr. Curevo"s last words, "I regret the deaths of those men I have killed in anger and those I am about to kill" At the buzzer pick up your rifle and double tap sweep the rifle targets starting at either end. Restage the rifle and with your first pistol sweep the left pistol targets 2,1,2 from the left. Holster and with your second pistol shoot the right pistol targets 2,1,2 from the right. Holster and pick up the shotgun and shoot the shotgun targets in any order. Note: shotgun targets must go down.

Prize for the slowest shootist on this stage.

Stage 4
"The Johnson County War of 1892"

10 Pistol
10 Rifle
4+ Shotgun

Johnson County Wyoming suffered a severe winter in 1887-88 with large losses of live- stock. To make things worse, large bands of heavily armed men were rustling cattle. To add to the problems the small ranchers had organized the Northern Wyoming Farmers and Stock Growers' Association led by Nate Champion. The large stockmen belonged to the Wyoming Stock Growers Association and met at the Cheyenne Club in Cheyenne. They intended to rid the area of rustlers and the WSGA members at the same time. They hired 23 Texas gunmen to eliminate the alleged rustlers. They were paid $5 per day and a $50 bonus for each "rustler killed". This group of killers would become known as the Red Sash Gang. Their first target was Nate Champion the leader of the NWFSGA. On the night of April 8 1892 the Red Sash Gang surrounded Nate's cabin and waited for daybreak. Inside the cabin were Nate Champion, his friend Nick Ray, two men who were just passing though the area and one man who history failed to record. Yes your right again, it was none other than Jose Cuervo. The two drifters were captured as they left the cabin in the morning and Nick Ray was mortally wounded. Nate and Jose were left to fend for themselves. As night came, they decided to make a break for it. Nate went out the front door six-shooter and a knife in hand and Jose went out the back guns blazing. Jose Cuervo was the lone survivor of the attack and was able to record the events for history.

Long guns staged in the rack, shotgun open and empty, rifle loaded with 10 rounds. Pistols holstered with 5 rounds each hammer down on an empty chamber.

When ready say Nate's last words " Goodbye, boys, if I never see you again" Grab your shotgun and knock down the shotgun targets in any order. Restage the shotgun and with your first pistol engage all the pistol targets in any order no double taps. Repeat with your second pistol. With your rifle engage all the rifle targets in any order no double taps. Pick up your long guns and move to the unloading table
